A most gorgeous staff member of the hostel explains me today, how to write chinese characters properly. A chinese person is standing in front of me, explaining the art of writing with such passion and devotion, that my heart warms all up. And I am not talking about what I do, which means, copying the characters which you can see printed in magazines. No, it’s about writing really beautifully. Artfully.
It is also about expressing feelings and not only about writing especially beautifully, he explains to me.
These characters have so much more in it, so much of culture and expression. Maybe I’ve always suspected it, but this is – literally – “without words”.
And after six months of just copying characters I can see how much I still have to learn until I will really learn this language.
This is also one side of china. Those people which want to preserve and keep the “expressive”.
Besides, he’s just 23 years old.
You could have thought I was sitting with an old chinese man with a white, long beard, sitting in front of a monastery, explaining the old world to a young western woman.
And again I am just impressed.
It’s always people who strike me most, who are the most impressive to me. And always it has to do with passion, devotion and love which they put into the things they do.
Even if it’s “just”, like in this case, about writing.
